From April 13 to May 27, 2026, the University of Szeged’s Cultural Office will host the 21st SZTE University Spring Festival. Spanning nearly two months, the festival will feature more than 300 programs across 70 venues, offering a vibrant celebration of literature, music, the arts, and community life for culture lovers throughout the city. The program brings together scientific and educational lectures, cultural events, sports activities, conferences, and entertainment at both university and citywide locations, providing a panoramic snapshot of university life that extends well beyond education and research.

The University of Szeged is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for its international self-financed study programs for the 2026–2027 academic year. Applications for a number of programs starting in Fall 2026 have been open since December 2025, while application periods for additional programs will begin in January 2026.

Since 2021, Katalin Karikó – widely recognized as a pioneer of mRNA research – has been a distinguished guest at commencement ceremonies across the United States. This spring marks another milestone in that remarkable journey: she has been invited to speak at the May 21, 2026 commencement ceremony of Johns Hopkins University, where she will also receive her 20th honorary doctorate. The announcement arrived in memorable fashion, presented as a Jeopardy!-style quiz campaign featuring a photograph taken by a staff member of the University of Szeged. With this playful tribute, America’s first research university has already placed the spotlight on Professor Karikó – even before she takes the stage to don the academic robes for yet another distinguished honor.
